I guess nobody is ready to discuss the book yet... I haven't read it yet, so unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute at this time....

Hi everyone! Back in April, several of us discussed ways to make the most of teaching Little Princes. I remember Helen Rosati mentioning creative ways to weave poetry into her lesson plans, and I came across a writer whose work might open up new discussions in GS 101 or English courses. Has anyone heard of Jhamak Kumari Ghimire? She won Nepal's Madan Puraskar prize (that nation's highest literary honor) for her book of autobiographical essays entitled "Is Life a Thorn or a Flower?" She writes poetry, too. A woman with Cerebral Palsy, Ghimire has no use of her hands, she cannot speak, she never went to school, and she learned to write by holding a pen with her left foot. She was not a victim of trafficking as those in Little Princes were, but her story touches on themes of disability, education, child abuse, and family. Here is a link to her poem, "A street child's question to his father": books.google.com/books?id=rCJwJI9lG3QC&pg=PA126&lpg=PA126&dq=%22a+street+child%27s+question+to+his+father%22+nepal&source=bl&ots=qH2hh8FaLm&sig=0ZvLR8OB2U2ZDbFeOOaoGyXvhkM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=M3_1UfSGLtSn4APNiYCIDw&ved=0CEYQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=%22a%20street%20child%27s%20question%20to%20his%20father%22%20nepal&f=falseHere's a link to a BBC article about her: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-14762629Any thoughts? I look forward to hearing more! -Megan
